What PEOPLE say....
"We are thrilled beyond belief.....The formal portraits are gorgeous. The wedding pictures are amazing. Your framing of each moment was impeccable and we are constantly awed by how you managed to capture the setting, the people and the feelings throughout the event.....Every time I pick up the book I find something new. I am particularly drawn to the sequence of photos taken of those at the family table of reactions to the speeches. You are such an accomplished portraitist, and I dare say, psychologist!"
MARIJEAN'S DAUGHTER'S WEDDING WAS AT CASA HYDER IN SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE
"...We are so unbelievably grateful that Lea recommended you to us. You have given us photos that we (and future generations?!!) will cherish for a very long time. The one of grandma laughing at dad's (probably bad) joke is so precious to my family now. We never thought that a wedding photographer could give us such incredible photos of our nearest and dearest as well as of us. We are now telling everyone we know: if you are serious about your wedding photographs, hire this woman!!"
LARRY AND SHOSHANA'S WEDDING WAS AT CASA HYDER, SAN MIGUEL DE ALLENDE
Your wedding day involves the most important people in your life coming together to make some of its most memorable moments. For the last seventeen years, my wedding photography has offered me the incredible privilege of seeing into these worlds and witnessing people at their happiest. It is for this reason I always look to capture the real emotions and stories that make up your day – images that represent who you are. These photographs will become some of the most meaningful and treasured pictures you will ever have. And therefore, in addition to classic images of the couple, I hope to capture the beauty of a fleeting expression, a shared moment between friends, a glimpse of emotion on the face of a loved one – all of those in-between moments that are the heartbeat of your wedding day.
WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHY: THREE KEY ASPECTS
THE CLASSIC PHOTOGRAPHS OF THE BRIDE, THE COUPLE AND THE WEDDING PARTY
These are the classic wedding photographs of the couple, not necessarily posed but certainly intentional. My approach to these photographs can depend on the taste, style and personalities of the couple. I usually take the couple away from the rest of the wedding to several previously scouted spots, typically for between twenty and forty-five minutes. Although I will sometimes offer specific directions, my aim is to allow your natural interactions to dictate the composition of these images. Wedding photographs are far too important to be overtaken by passing trends and I aspire to make these images timelessly beautiful.
NATURAL AND VIBRANT SHOTS OF THE PEOPLE THAT MAKE UP YOUR WEDDING
These are the totally natural shots that capture the people of your wedding; a mother moved by a speech or friends in hysterics at a remembered story. It is the people (probably the most important ones in your life) who give meaning to your wedding and (without being intrusive or conspicuous) I aim to come away with lots of candid portraits of them. Some wedding photographers seem to capture the couple and the details while overlooking the other people the make up the wedding. So many couples I have photographed have shared with me their delight at having great shots of their closest friends and family to cherish into the future.
EVOCATIVE AND TIMELESS IMAGES THAT TELL THE STORY OF THE WEDDING DAY
These photographs will tell the story of the day, documenting the event with shots of those key moments; preparation on both sides, walking down the aisle and the exchange of rings, as well as showing the details and setting of the wedding in all its glory. However, I also capture those intervening moments that often provide the most evocative memories of all. Not everything can be planned, and although rain might make an appearance and alter events, I am not fazed. I aspire to get shots that prove magic can be found in the smaller in-between moments that also provide the substance of your wedding.
WEDDINGS IN TULUM
TULUM IS THE IDEAL LOCATION FOR AN INTIMATE AND PEACEFUL BEACH WEDDING
Tulum lies at the southern end of the Riviera Maya, Mexico’s own stretch of Caribbean coastline. The coast’s many hotels vary hugely, from the upscale elegance of the Rosewood Mayakobá through the refined tranquillity of Be Tulum and on to the low key charm of a simple cabaña amongst the palms. Before moving to Mexico it had not crossed my mind that my job as a wedding photographer could involve working on the beach – I am sure you can now imagine my delight. The sand between everyone’s toes and a salty breeze blowing through bride’s hair make for a gorgeously tranquil environment for a wedding.
ONE OF THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WEDDINGS I HAVE PHOTOGRAPHED
One of the most exquisite weddings I have shot in Tulum was an intimate event at Casa Nalum. With people from all over the world, the main wedding party were staying in Casa Nalum itself (which is inside the Sian Ka’an reserve) and the guests stayed down the track in Tulum. It was such a serene and sweet wedding, everyone just hanging out together before the ceremony helping to hang flowers and to place petals in the pool. The whole wedding day flowed completely naturally and it didn’t seem to have a beginning or an end. It is perhaps the sand, ocean breeze and lush greenery of Tulum and its surroundings that enabled this effortless feeling of spontaneity along with a total lack of stress.
COUNTLESS BEAUTIFUL SPOTS TO GET MARRIED
There really are so many venues and hotels that will provide a perfect setting for your beach wedding but if I had to chose a favourite it would be Be Tulum (although seriously, everywhere in Tulum is pretty nice). Be Tulum manages to be one of the more high end and polished hotels on the beach whilst totally maintaining the feeling of laid-back simplicity.
A LITTLE TULUM HOLIDAY FOR ME...
I always stay on one extra night when I go to shoot a wedding in Tulum. I have always stayed in Yoga Shala, a small and very low key hotel which, although across the road, is but a few steps from the beach. There are usually a few cats hanging around, occasionally wandering into one’s room when they feel like it – a definite plus for me. If I get hold of a bicycle, I take the opportunity to spend the late afternoon on the bridge over the Sian Ka’an’s lagoon, watching the sunset from there. The crocodiles lurking in the shadow of the bridge at this hour are an added bonus.
